chairman, former governor of mississippi. he is in jackson this morning and cory booker, of course, is the mayor of newark, and he is in our new york studio. governor barbour president me just start with you and i want to go back to the top. he says he hopes the sequester the draconian cuts don't go into effect. but from where i sit it looks to me like this is all going to happen because congress and the white house just can't figure out hue not to let it happen. what's your take? >> first of all, it was the president's idea when the sequester was proposalsed to be put into law a couple of years ago and there are plenty of reasons for to not want it to go into effect, particularly the defense spending. what the democrats want is another excuse to raise taxes. their answer soevery question is raise taxes. they apparently think what's wrong with the company and president obama mrs. pelosi, steny hoyer and top harkin, all prominent democrats have all said "we don't have a spending problem in this country." they think what's wrong with our country is we tax too little. well most ameri

when jesse jackson had to hold his nose and go to damascus to beg for the release of an american pilot who had been shot down by the syrians. drones are clearly the wave of the future because they save american lives but they're also effective for surveillance. they have far greater use than simply the kind of fighters we've used, and we actually also use them for domestic purposes. they were reportedly used in the case of the 5-year-old who was held in alabama. they have been used for weather. there are an estimated 8,000 drones so although it's part of the most secret program, military program, we have, there are also other uses. >> which starts to frighten folks domestically 37 good thing with the outcome of that alabama case but some folks think their civil liberties are about to be infringed upon at home. dan, i know from your reporting and the book you wrote there, was more debate within this administration about the transparency aspect of it than there was whether they would engage in a drone program. explain that. >> well, that's exactly right, and that comes up significantly i

in wyoming when we do in jackson, wyoming, where i live is we have deputy sheriffs, armed deputy sheriffs, one at each scol. that's a prticaway to make sure you don't have that kind of incident occur. now when you start down the road of you're going to ban guns or put limits on guns. >> rose: do you think the president wants to ban guns? do you think the president wants to threaten the second amendment? >> i think there are a lot of people out there who think he does. >> rose: i'm asking you. >> well, he said he doesn't and i'll take his word on that but he ran afoul of the constitution the other day in his appointments to the n.l.r.b.. so there are people who don't trust him, obviously, on this question. i think it's imptant to try to come up with ways to reduce the prospect of violence in our schools, without question. i'm not sure that going back to what we've done before, for example, banning the so-called assault weapon is going to have the desired impact. i worry that it becomes a symbolic act, a big political fight but in the final analysis it won't address the problem. >> rose: bu
